T-shirt Design Brief

OVERVIEW
True North Clothing Co. is a new business launching in Canada. The business will be retailing Canadian-made apparel online. The apparel is primarily targeted to women 35-55, but may have some appeal to a younger market. The real impetus for me – as a woman in her late 40s - to start this business was my desire to find casual wear that is fashionable, of good quality, not overly trendy, and age-appropriate. True North will start with the manufacturing of graphic T-shirts and may expand into other categories over time. The T-shirts will be designed by Canadians, manufactured in Canada, with a percentage of proceeds going to a Canadian-based charity. Because the apparel will be manufactured domestically, it will appeal to a middle-income audience who are more educated about the impact of offshore production and are willing to pay a higher price for clothing. But this is not a luxury brand. For launch, we are looking for three (3) unique T-shirt designs.

EXECUTIONAL CONSIDERATIONS
• All colour executions are acceptable and will be considered (T-shirts colours are still TBD – you may suggest T-shirt colour if your design is accepted).
• The T-shirts are intended to be worn as classic, standalone pieces, with subtle and beautiful designs that draw interest.
• True North’s brand identity is intended to be fresh, approachable, wearable, and classically fashionable (not trendy).
• Women should be proud to wear the shirts, but at the same time, they’re not intended to be worn as a fashion statement (or a social statement). They can wear these to go out during the day or for a casual evening out.

True North logo file is included, as a reference for the brand look and feel.

MANDATORY
Our mission is to deliver a Made in Canada product. Therefore, any participating designer must be based in Canada, please.

• To reiterate: thank you to all who are interested in participating, but I am looking for designers based in Canada in order to maintain the integrity of the product as being fully "made in Canada".

• No logo, no images that are "Canadiana" in nature - the designs should be wearable, beautiful, classic and fashionable.
