Poster Design Brief

I've got a twice monthly DJ gig at a cafe coming up April - June and want a poster that's going to make people think - 'I want to go to that!'

I run an online radioshow (www.whatyouwantradio.com) which specialises in soul, jazz, funk, hiphop, disco edits and anything that falls under the giant umbrella of Balearic. Check the site the Tumblr which should give you a good idea of where we're at with WYWR: http://whatyouwantradio.tumblr.com/. The gig at the cafe is all about the Soul/Jazz/Funk though, so I want to the poster to focus on that.

Influence: Jazz/Soul/Funk gig posters with head shots. Pharoah Sanders blowing Sax. Ella wailing. Marvin singing into mic. Vinyl. Feeling: er, jazz/soul/funk - the classic. nb. can be obscure artists - feeling is more that the DJing is going to be hitting black US music 1960s-1980s. Points for quality obscure - track down anyone who's worked with Charles Stepney :)

Colours. Two/three tone. Black plus? White plus? Needs to make an effect from distance (location: front window of the pub, plus all over town). So it needs to be relatively simple.

Size: A2

There are bits that need to go on there - the WYWRadio logo for a start. Will send the files for that. Title: 'The WhatYouWantRadio Sessions'. Subtitles: 'At Muziekcafe Foots', 'With Mr. Six.'

Then I got venue details and logo inc. facebook, web addresses (the cafe and whatyouwantradio), my DJ name ' Mr Six' and, most importantly, six dates and times. But they can come later - just important to note that there will need to be space somewhere for them.

Target Market(s)

All ages - cafe's clientele are late twenties and up. Not just specialist soul/funk heads. But music lovers.

Must have

• Title and subtitles. WYWR Logo. Space for additional dates/info etc.

Should not have

• Think a bit broader than just someone with a big Afro. Not that I have anything against Afros, they rule. I've just seen a lot of posters advertising nights called 'Car Wash' etc.
