We're looking for a logo for our business. The name of our company is ShedLight.
We are a small consulting firm based in New Zealand that provides advice on business strategy, organisation management, business development and marketing. The clients we help are based in New Zealand and further afield in places such as Australia and China.
Clients range from small start-ups looking to get going and grow fast in the right way, to mid-sized businesses that are trying to expand, through to larger corporates that need independent advice or help filling staffing or skill gaps. We work across a range of sectors - technology products, professional services (architecture, engineering, legal etc), tourism, etc.
So why the name ShedLight?
- We work alongside our clients to help 'shed light' on their businesses by providing fresh perspectives and innovative advice.
- Maybe not as important in terms of designing a logo, but we also work from a studio we call 'the Shed'. It's light and bright, and is where all of our ideas start.
Updates
Project Deadline Extended
Reason: There are a number designers working on making some changes to designs that have been submitted, especially in some cases where I have asked for options or ways to make small improvements. The extension is to give these designers a bit of time to play with the feedback. New designs still welcome. Thanks everyone for the time and effort.

Target Market(s)
Start-up businesses: these are usually the result of outstanding technical people who are experts in the particular field - often they need guidance to get their brilliance organised and out there to the market.
Existing businesses: owners and managers / CEO's in business who need to step up growth, turn things around, become more focussed or bring in new ideas and perspectives.

Requirements
Must have
- Something that is professional yet friendly seems right. We also like the idea of a logo that is interesting, possibly a little quirky. One that gets people talking.
Nice to have
- It would be nice to bring a clever element into the design that uses the meaning of the term 'shed light'.
- The term 'shed light' is often used in the phrase 'to shed light on' something. Here are a couple of definitions that I found which might help:
- - Shed light basically means to provide more insight into something, to explain things in more detail...give more information, explain.
- - To "shed light" means to enlighten - those that are exposed to a source of information that brings them to a new awareness of something they were once in the "dark" about. To share knowledge and experiences with others.
Should not have
- We don't want a logo that is corporate / sterile / bland, one that is overly casual or one that converts the 'shed light' idea into something that seems evangelistic.
