Logo Design Brief
We need a logo design to identify our non-profit ministry with at-risk urban youth. Currently we are an after-school program, but within the year will be opening a Christian Vocational School. Therefore, it will be a logo that is used on all promotional items, but ultimately would look great as a school emblem for sweatshirts, bumper stickers, school notebooks, etc!
Our mission statement:
"Our vision is to nurture at-risk neighborhood youth by providing a safe, pre-gang-alternative “community” where Biblical values are modeled and experienced through a variety of holistic activities that encourage: Christian commitment, academic success, career exploration, healthy families, and community caring, and in doing so, strengthen these youth to be change agents for hope and healing in theirs and future generations."
We also use the acronym "PNC" frequently, so that could be the main emblem, with "Pomona New Community" elsewhere in the logo.
Most importantly to who we are - we see ourselves as a "community" (Martin Luther King, Jr. used the term "Beloved Community" to express the ideal of all races, cultures, ages and genders coming together as one before God. We didn't think teenagers would attend a program called "Beloved" - thus "New"!)
At first, we asked our students to submit their own ideas, but they were too graffiti-styled and not traditional enough. We then considered some traditional styles, but they weren't appealing to youth. Because we will use this on all communications - from donors, to website, to promotional videos and flyers - it has to address a broad audience.

Target Market(s)
1.) Youth, who are the clients of our program (something they would be proud to wear on a t-shirt, for example) and show to their friends.
2.) Adult investors, as we share promotional materials and want them to feel confident donating their money to us.

Requirements
Must have
Useful to a variety of applications: clothing, print, video, internet, and so on.
Appeal to a broad generational audience, youthful but traditional.
Actually represent WHO WE ARE. I'm not fond of logos that don't give a clear idea of what or who the organization is.
Emblem-logo appearance that we will use for a LONG time to represent our new school (Your design might outlive both you and me!) We are Non-Profit, so the Board of Directors will most likely only let us do this once every generation!!
Nice to have
- Youthful colors (but not primary, please. Perhaps a bit muted.)
And probably limit to just 2, maybe 3 colors, as too complex will be expensive when we screen print clothing.
Should not have
- No overtly Christian or religious themes.
No gang-style appearance
Not too modern.
