Design Description
I think this stylised waratah captures the essence of the state. Growing up in regional NSW, I would get annoyed that a lot of the states identity was often tied up with Sydney''s landmarks. The waratah is an easily recognisable flower and one that holds some level of identity with the residents of the whole state. I think this concept has a lot of strength and is easily adaptable to different uses.

thanks for the positive feedback. although I agree that the flower is probably not anatomically accurate, residents of NSW will no doubt make the waratah connection in its stylised way. Colours can be varied as needed, unfortuntately I was working on an older monitor at the time so it didn't quite come out the colour I thought it would.

good logo, however, not sure about the use type face for NSW, its kind of in your face, heavy. Maybe be better as grey?

There may be some genuine trouble as there may be some backlash in that it is still not a NSW waratah. The greatest danger is that Victoria or Tasmania can ridicule the mark because it is actually much closer to their waratahs - the Victorian, Tasmanian, and Gippsland waratahs - the worst effect is that the logo identifies itself with another state (check out the pictures at en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Waratah). While I understand that some NSW waratahs don't have the petal-like bracts, this may also incline some people to interpret it as Leucospermum, an African genus (check out the images at en.wkipedia.org/Leucospermum); the colour is also closer to L. cordifolium and L. glabrum. This is so unfortunate as your mark is way much better than the lotus, but we need to simplify but without the cost of identity or meaning.
